Visualizing Law and Sovereignty: A Comparative Digital Exhibition of European and Canadian Cartography
Visualizing Law, Art, and Sovereignty: A Comparative Digital Exhibition of European and Canadian Cartography, is a virtual exhibit which analyzes patterns in European mapmaking between the 16th and 19th centuries. Particular focus is paid to the artistic and political trends that are reflected in Flemish, French, and English cartography, and the ways in which the lands now known as Canada are depicted.
This virtual exhibition was curated and written by Leyla Mansouri, the 2024 Digital Humanities Undergraduate Assistant at W.D. Jordan Rare Books and Special Collections, Queen's University Library, under the supervision of Brendan Edwards, Curator.
All of the maps discussed in this exhibition are held in the Broadside and Poster Collection at W.D. Jordan Rare Books and Special Collections.
